This is my 2nd attempt at review, because Apples programmer who designed this review process was a moron, and thought it would be funny to erase my review if the nickname was already taken.
Anyway, this app is as good as it gets, it is very cheap, and it is very useful. You can import or build your own recipes, put them into categories and sub lists such as breakfast, dessert, vegan, Joes recipes, etc - you can add nutritional information, edit ingredients, add extra steps or whatever you want. It also imports the preparation and cooking directions so you don’t even need to visit the website – it also stores the website URL that you got it from!
Now – let’s say you are going to go shopping and want to cook 10 recipes. Add them to your grocery list (which, by the way, the lists can be categorized and manipulated akin to the recipes), and your grocery list will have all of the ingredients added into neat categories to streamline your shopping. So all produce will be under one category, all spices, all meats, dairy, etc.. It even adds subscripts to each shopping list item that lets you know which recipes each item belongs too… which you can save for later for easy categorizing at home. You can even add notes to the item itself to let yourself know which aisle the item can be found in at your favorite store.
But wait… there is more… lol, you get to share the app with your entire family without needing to pay anything additional. You can share recipe lists, grocery lists, stuff for the house lists… and when one of you updates anything that is being shared, it is updated for everybody. Your wife at the store and you forgot that you needed bananas? Add bananas to the shared grocery list and it will pop up on her list and notify her via the phone. You saw an amazing recipe for Belgian waffles? Add it to your shared breakfast list and text your wife about your amazing find.
Now, one criticism I would offer is about their meal plan functionality. You can manually add recipes for each day on the calendar and create a meal plan as far into the future as you would like, which is nice. However, you can’t copy and paste entire weeks. You even must open the day and manually select each recipe for that day if you want to copy the one day. It is a minor gripe, but it would seem to be easy to implement and would greatly improve their meal plan functionality. As of now I just meal plan ad hoc on a weekly basis using the grocery list.
All in all, 5/5 stars. Seriously.
